Twentieth Week #23 - Nothing, really. But Pizza!

January 26th, 2019

This entry will cover my experiences: January 14th - 20th

Monday (14th):

  • Japanese National Holiday, but some of us Yamato Nishi students went to the American partner high school in Zama to attend 2 of their classes and talk to the students and so on.
  • We were assigned partners and attended the lessons with them. I had English and biology with a precious girl. English was interesting but because we had been a little late I was at first confused about the topic. It was education in the US (how high school students are not really prepared for college/life). Very interesting to see that. But it kind of made me uncomfortable to see that people were allowed to just shout out their thoughts. I'm so used to raising my hand first (more since I'm in Japan). Also watched some videos.
  • During biology class it was kind of difficult to participate because the students had to finish a project and a report or something, but I was able to just chitchat a little. I think for the Japanese students it was a bit hard to understand and therefore maybe a little boring.
  • Anyway good time; also met some people I've seen at other occasions. Found out that one guy, I'd met at the parade (one of the previous entries) is not really called the name he told me. So in the cafeteria I was like "Hey, A---!" and he was actually looking kind of confused and embarrassed or something. And then another guy was like
    "Do you know him?"
    "Yeah, sure"
"What did you just call him?"
    "A---?"
"Actually.... everybody just calls him "J---". But I think his real name is "D-a---"
"Oh, wow. Now I feel embarrassed."
  • After lunch we played board games, but we were a little confused about some rules.

Tuesday (15th):

  • Can't remember anything, but noted "cookie" in my notebook. Whatever that means...
  • AH, I JUST RECALLED: I had received cinnamon cookies from my mother [I love you! Thank you for everything and always] and was like sharing them with my class. But there were only 14 cookies, but 40 students. So they played rock, scissors, paper

Wednesday (16th):

  • Did some preparation for a welcome-party for us exchange students (Italian girl, a Taiwanese guy and me) at ESS club. Although it's been more than 4 months, but party is party, right?

Thursday (17th):

  • nothing (noted down)

Friday (18th):

  • nothing noted down (again) but I can recall that in music class we formed groups that will perform a song with any instruments we like. Since I do not really have friends there I was "left over" but it's not too bad. But I don't know the song, so I can't really sing and my guitar skills are not the best because I don't practice enough :(
  • AH, now I recall that we had the ESS club welcome-party! We had food and drinks, played bingo, talked and tried to play monopoly (most of them had never played it before)
  • People are so nice.

Saturday/Sunday (19th/20th):

  • I did nothing much because for the first time in forever (there'll be music there'll be light) I didn't have any plans. So I worked on this blog and studied or something. Also attended church. Did not really get things and had to ask the person next to me for what page to open etc. but yeah.
