April 7th, 2019
This entry will cover my experiences: February 11th - 17th 2019.
Not much going on this week. We had 1 week off since the people, who'd enter Yamato Nishi for the new school year, took their entrance exams there.
Monday (February 11th):
- Baked cookies for Valentine's day to give them to my friends. In Japan there is a custom of giving chocolate or other (often handmade) sweets to friends and the person you like. While I was
making the dough, my hostsister also made a Schwarzwälderkirschtorte-like (cherry-chocolate-cream) cake, that already looked delicious. It took me quite a while to bake the cookies and
unfortunately right when I was about to put the first round in the oven microwave thing, it broke down :( Luckily, my hostfam had another microwave thing. When I was finally finished with
creating about 125 cookies (Yes, I counted them), I also decorated them with icing, chocolate and sweet drops and so on. I was kind of proud. But if my hostfam hadn't helped me, I wouldn't have
finished in time, brah.
Tuesday (12th):
- Gave the cookies to my friends in small bags (the cookies, not the friends), although most of them were kind of surprised since it was 2 days before actual Valentine's day, BUT that would've
been a day off because of the middle school kids' entrance exam. I also gave cookies to some teachers, since I'm a good kid. (Am I though?), I also got some sweets from people who were as early
as me, which was nice.
Wednesday (13th): No recollection of what happened.
April 25th, 2019
Thursday (14th):
- I went to a sushi fast-food restaurant ("Sushiro") with 2 girls. The place was kind of far from the station so we walked through a lovely neighborhood which, by the way, later turned to be
out the neighborhood of my next hostfamily :D. We had some good food and fun :D
Friday (15th):
- The girls I used to eat lunch with back then and I sang karaoke at a karaoke box near the station of my school. Although we'd only booked for two hours, we were allowed to stay longer since
no one else needed the room so I guess we spent more than 3 hours in there. Splendid! Finally we headed for a Purikura photoboot.
Saturday (16th):
- My hostfamily took me to a Costco (American Mall-chain (?)) where we ate gigantic pizza and browsed through various products. From shelves of books and kids' toys to tents and garden
furniture to cheese, ham and other food they had it all. Following my recommendation my hostfam bought Rafaello, a delicious, white coconut chocolate ball,
- We left for a DVD rent shop and I was allowed to pick 5 movies.
- Watched the first movie (of course in Japanese): Koe no Katachi (The Shape of Voice), in my opinion a [MOVIE OPINION AHEAD] beautiful
composition of animation, music, silence and a compelling story. One of my favourite Japanese movies I've seen so far. [OKAY, GOOD TO GO]
Sunday (17th):
- Watched the second movie: Waterboys: I will try to give a summary. [MOVIE OPINION AHEAD] It's
a comedy about several Japanese high school boys who want (or a forced) to form a swimming team, that due to peculiar circumstances becomes a team for synchronized swimming, which is not
particularly popular/cool, but the boys do their best and even find a coach and facing some obstacles they do their best to show a good performance in the pool. Though a little old, I'd call it
classy and highly entertaining. [OKAY, GOOD TO GO]
